Hello Community,
With a little delay I finally came around to make a news about the Nations Cup 2013 results (again). I already typed it one a week ago, but my PC crashed just before I was done. So instead of re-writing everything I want to do it a little bit different and post a short interview with frozen (Team Russia).
Maxtasy: Hey frozen, how are you?
Frozen: Hello Max, i'm fine and you?
Maxtasy: Yeah me too, as always. When did you start playing HL2DM? What were your favourite servers and maps back then?
Frozen: I started to play HL2DM in early 2009. My favourite server was ... I don't remember the name, but it was a German server with Overwatch only, 200 gravity. And yes, my favourite map was Overwatch and Lockdown. And there, on that server, i joined my first team called tmas.
Maxtasy: What were your favourite weapons?
Frozen: When i started to play, it was crossbow only. And when i've got some skill my weapon preference turned to magnum, shotgun and RPG.
Maxtasy: When did you first play a competitive match?
Frozen: My first match was when I joined my second team named Deep-6, it was 3on3 dm_lostarena vs. A team called UF, but I could be wrong, it was a long time ago. But as I remember, we have lost this game. It was 6 month after I started to play HL2DM.
Maxtasy: Was this the first Nations Cup you played in?
Frozen: Yes, sure. As u know I'm from Kazakhstan and there weren't any skilled players who played together and when there were some players from kz, i had very bad ping on European servers. And yes, my ping is the main problem why I joined Clans-United so late, I played exclusively on Russian servers until 2011.
Maxtasy: So now over a week has passed since your victory. Looking back at this Cup, do you think it was interesting and fun?
Frozen: Hmm ... yes, it was fun, a new expirience for me and sure, it was also interesting. The most interesting games were vs. Germany and the final vs. France.
Maxtasy: Were you surprised that so many nations actually showed up?
Frozen: Yes, I thought that HL2DM is dead. Sad that there were some bad situations with UK for example and with Belarus, but at least we played many interesting matches.
Maxtasy: What did you expect of the Cup before it started, did you already know that Russia will dominate?
Frozen: The biggest thing I didn't expect is that so many teams could play this cup. We didn't know about domination because our activity was far away from HL2DM, we played alot of CS:GO at that time. And before the cup started, Sentre's monitor was broken and he needed to play on his TV screen, so we thought that it would be really difficult for us expecially when we noticed that there will be such strong teams as Germany and France.
Maxtasy: Which nation did you fear the most?
Frozen: As I mentioned, it were France and Germany. We knew that Germany can perform nice gameplay and France has had very strong roster.
Maxtasy: Is there anything that can be improved in future Cups?
Frozen: As for me everything was okay except one little thing that we could see in our game vs. Belarus. I mean rage quitting, it would be good if such behavior would get penalized.
Maxtasy: The French players complaint quite a bit about the unfairness in the final, mainly because of high ping. What are your thoughts on this?
Frozen: It can never be completely 'fair'. I always play with 40-60 ms ping and playing with 110-120 ms is really hard for me, i have to change my gameplay every time. They had worse ping than us only on 2 maps. The only fair way is to play on LAN, but I guess this won't happen.
Maxtasy: Makes sense. In the end it's not your fault that they didn't have a match server located in France, which would makes things even. Another topic: Which important players were missing this year? Are there some players you would have liked to see and play against?
Frozen: Yes, you are right. And about players, I would be glad to see a strong roster from UK and Nordic. This Nations Cup would be more interesting with such players as Serino, Pellem, ChocolatepeanuT, etc. . Another problem is that not everyone was active and many players, such as Warrior has lost their skill. But this isn't something new for us since there are not many active players and teams left, many of skilled players left HL2DM and not alot of new players are coming to this old game. About our team, it would have been nice to play with Pred, but he left HL2DM aswell.
Maxtasy: Yeah, the decreasing number of active players is a big problem. What about you? Was that your last Cup? At least I heard that Sentre wants to stop playing HL2DM, did you also decide to stop?
Frozen: I think so, I decided to stop playing competitive HL2DM. Maybe you will see me on public servers sometimes. I have more fun playing with one cute person instead of playing 2v2. And about Sentre, that's right, he doesn't want to play HL2DM anymore.
Maxtasy: What are your thoughts on the current state of the HL2DM Community? Will it survive another year? And do you care about it?
Frozen: I care about it because I played this for about 5 years, but I don't think that it will survive much longer, the community is dying slowly. The only thing that could survive is 1on1. But maybe I'm wrong, in 2012 people thought there won't be any Nations Cups anymore and in 2013, we had another one. But if HL2DM will survive, I won't play competetively anymore, only just for fun and because of good memories.
Maxtasy: Which games are you looking forward to play in the future?
Frozen: I have no idea about it, I tried to play CS:GO, but for now I stopped it. But if i will play something it will be something like Counter-Strike or HL2DM, maybe even HL3DM. For now I just want to have some fun playing HL2DM with one person.
Maxtasy: What do you usually do when you are not playing any games? Do you have any special hobbies?
Frozen: In my spare time I football, so in the summer I prefer to play that instead of computer games. Also I'm studying at the university and I have a lot of home exercises.
Maxtasy: Alright, I guess that's all for the moment from my side. Thanks for your time. Is there anything else you want to say?
Frozen: Thanks you, too. And thanks for managing this cup. I hope HL2DM will survive for another year. Who knows, maybe we will meet each other in other games. And thanks to Sentre, Pred, TSMC (who won't see all of this), WaRHaM, DooMeR and my other teammates, we had good time playing together. I wish you good luck, Max.
The Admin Team wants to thank all people who are still actively participating in this Community and awesome game! As long as you guys are around, we will support you with a Platform, Events and Cups.
